Some FAQs

Entry Questions

Some general questions about entering the Gritty Rascals swimrun races. Some more FAQs below, but do message us if you cannot find what you need.

We discount our prices to encourage earlier entries helping us to cash flow our events (we have to pay for many items and services months in advance). This also reduces waste and reflects the extra costs associated with shorter lead times.

We operate Early Bird, Standard and Late Entry fees. See individual race pages for dates.

We deliver our events with leading standards of safety and support. Specialist water safety, medical, communications, and delivery teams are brought together to run our Swimruns. You are in safe and experienced hands.

It is possible to transfer to another distance. This must be done at least 2 weeks in advance of the event and will be subject to the terms and conditions as set out on our Terms and Conditions page.

For information on refund options please see our Terms and Conditions.

Swimrun FAQs

Information About Swimrun

Swimrun is still a relatively new sport with many events having a large proportion of newcomers. We have a few FAQs here for you. Just send us a message if you’d like to know a little more.

Swimrun is an adventure sport that was originally completed in pairs, but you now see more solo events being organised. Originally an endurance sport, there are increasingly shorter courses enabling anyone that can swim to try. You run and swim from the start to finish; no changing on the route as you run in your wetsuit and swim with trainers on. A continuous journey as you transition from land to water to land. You must go through every transition and checkpoint to reach the finish line. And, if in a team, you must stay close to your teammate – no more than 10 metres apart in most races.

There are a wide range of swim distances, some may be in a river where you are always close to the bank and carried with the flow, at the other extreme, races can be long sea swims where waves and the tide could be against you, making conditions more difficult, so the answer will vary from race to race.

There is a mandatory kit list stated on our race pages. Some FAQs on the Low Tide Boyz website gives you more information that can be very helpful in terms of what to wear.

Increasingly there are wetsuits specifically designed for swimruns. The front zip allows you to regulate body temperature on runs and they have less neoprene in some areas to make it easier when on the run sections. The swimrun wetsuits still aid buoyancy and warmth on the swim sections. Beginners often make do with what they have provided it meets the standards set by the race organiser which can be quite different based on each particular race.

It would be easy to say to just go out and do lots of run and swim sessions, but there is a little more to it than that. Look to add open water swim sessions and depending on the course, you’ll likely want to add trail and hill running, as well as practicing running in your wetsuit and swimming with your trainers on.

You can find details of other British Swimrun affiliated races on their event finder Event Finder – Swimrun events across the British Isles, or if you are interested in ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship  you can see their race calendar here:Races – ÖTILLÖ Swimrun
