The Coniston Full course is a 47km journey through some of the Lake District’s most iconic and varied terrain. Athletes traverse Coniston Water, Windermere, Rydal Water, and Grasmere, navigating technical trails, forest tracks, and open fell paths in a landscape shaped by water, stone, and time.
As the longest swimrun race in mainland Britain, it features 18 transitions and over 1,000m of ascent. The course demands strategic pacing, confident navigation, and robust endurance. Swim sections include sandy shores and rocky entries and exits, with water temperatures typically around 15°C — making wetsuit choice and cold water preparation essential.
For the third year, the Swimrun Coniston Full course will be an ÖTILLÖ Merit Race.

At ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Merit Races, you can collect points towards the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun ranking system. ÖTILLÖ select teams to ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship based on their accumulated points at the end of the season.
Enter your ÖTILLÖ ID on our Entry Form to the Full course to get your World Championship ranking points.

Safety Measures
Safety Measures
It is important that all athletes appreciate that safety first begins with yourself, your team, and each other. Take care of each other – it is a long, tough course.
All athletes must help one another in an emergency, whether this is on the Full course, Gritty course or Sprint course, team or solo. Communicate with event staff when help is needed as early communication is important.
We have a robust safety plan in place, with expert water safety and medical teams on the course. We also have cut offs in place at swim entries and at checkpoints for further safety measures. The compulsory race briefing will go through all safety measures in more detail.
